Dominican High School was established 1964 (MCMLXIV) by the Diocese of Cabanatuan. Founded on the virtue of faith above intelligence (Pietas Ac Intellegentia), its main thrust is education of the heart through religion as core of the curriculum. Dominican High School was named after St. Dominic de Guzman, founder of the Order of Preachers. In the logo is a dog holding a torch in his mouth. It symbolizes the legacy of St. Dominic in his mission of evangelization and holiness through prayers, preaches and penances. As an integral part of the church, it is the most essential work of the school to ensure the widespread of the Good News in the school community as evident in the daily life of prayer and community sharing. The three books represent knowledge of the Divine as the greatest wisdom (Book of Faith), the power of education to transform lives (Book of Education) and sensitivity to societal truths (Book of the Society). These three books converge in the central values of faith, communion, learning and ministry. The colors blue, red and yellow are colors of the Philippine flag. Dominican High School advocates nationalism as a tool for peace and justice. PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION: Dominican High School advocates the empowerment of its learners for lifelong learning and as an active maker of meaning and change. An empowered leaner is one who acquires the essential life skills necessary to situate himself/herself effectively in the functioning of the society. Core life skills include intrapersonal skills, effective communication, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, creative thinking, problem-solving and decision-making and the acquisition of a desirable value system founded on faith and spirituality. Dominican High School strives to promote learner-centered constructivist approaches to instruction placing emphasis on the social nature of learning, proximal development, cognitive apprenticeship and mediated learning. The design of the curriculum in general is based on the principle that there are two main sources of reliable and meaningful knowledge for contemporary basic education: expert systems of knowledge and the learner’s experience in his/her everyday life encounters. .
